Gunnedah District Development Board
 

The Gunnedah District Development Board Inc was formed in November 2003, following the amalgamation of the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc and Business Gunnedah Inc. The Gunnedah District Development Board is a member based incorporated association.

The two community organisations addressed various levels of business support and economic development in the Gunnedah Shire, from micro businesses through to large industry. However, many of their objectives and projects are similar, so function as the combined peak business body will address all levels of business and economic development in the Gunnedah Shire.

 
Objectives and Role of the Board
The objectives of Gunnedah District Development Board are:
  • To represent the business sector
  • To facilitate economic development of the Gunnedah Shire
  • To support and facilitate the community’s involvement in the economic and social development of the Shire
  • To assist in the recognition of Gunnedah as being part of a wider region
  • To foster the establishment of partnerships and networks amongst businesses within the Shire and the region
  • To assist in the formation of linkages within the New England North West region and between regions and to participate in regionally based projects
  • To assist tourism development
  • To support the agricultural sector and associated value adding opportunities
  • To assist marketing and events
  • To enhance business skills through education
  • To assist in the beautification of the Shire and development of the Shire’s resources
 
Function of the Board's Management Committee
The management committee of the Board currently comprises 8 members, who undertake the following:
  • Planning and Policy Decisions.
    Setting the organisation’s direction (mission, goals and objectives); establishing policies to guide the operation; hiring the Executive Officer.
  • Financial Development.
    Responsibility for funding the planning and policy decisions and for ensuring that the organisation is adequately financed and viable.
  • Monitoring and Sanction.
    Monitoring the implementation of planning and policy decisions to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives; providing sanction, enthusiastic endorsement and approval of the organisation to the community based on real achievements and contributions to community betterment.
