| In essence, the Rural Plan is about adopting a holistic
and integrated approach to regional development; which
provides a framework for ongoing monitoring, review
and implementation and is driven by the local community.
Inherent within this approach is the need for effective
skills transfer and development of local capacities.
These are critical to the success of any Rural Plan.
The study region for the Gunnedah Shire and Liverpool
Plains Rural Plan comprises the Liverpool Plains water
catchment, an area that encompasses Gunnedah and Liverpool
Plains Shires and parts of Tamworth Regional Council,
Warrabungle and Narrabri Shires. The emphasis, however,
has been on Gunnedah Shire, which comprises over half
the area and more than two thirds of its population.

The Rural Plan includes recommendations for strategic
development in our area relevant to the natural resources,
skilled labor, transport, climate, topography and geography
the Liverpool Plains has to offer.
The Gunnedah Community has progressed the Rural Plan
through the “GROW GUNNEDAH” public meetings.
The GROW Gunnedah strategic plan compliments the Rural
Plan and continues the revision and implementations
of the those recommendations.
