GUNNEDAH LAUNCHES SUPPORT FUND FOR WATERWAYS WILDLIFE PARK
Tuesday, 9 February, 2010
A COMMUNITY fund to support Gunnedah’s Waterways Wildlife Park has been launched today by Gunnedah Shire Council.
The Waterways Wildlife Park Community Support Fund enables the community to show its support for the Park and its owners Nancy and Colin Small by making donations which will assist in sustaining the operations and further enhancement of the park.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor Adam Marshall said Council was very concerned by the events of last week and was keen to bring the community together to support Nancy and Colin Small and their staff and volunteers at Waterways during this very difficult time. Gunnedah is the “Koala Capital of the World” and the park is part of that branding.
Cr Marshall announced that Council had kick-started the fund with a donation of $5,000.
“It’s hard to find the words to describe Nancy and Colin’s contribution to Gunnedah over many, many years – they are held in the highest regard – and we want to do, as a Council and a community, everything we can to support them,” Cr Marshall said.
“Council is encouraging the community to continue to show the strong community spirit and resilience Gunnedah is famous for and support Nancy and Colin, their staff and volunteers by donating to this fund.
“All monies donated will go directly to the Waterways Wildlife Park to support this great asset in our community and help ensure the tremendous work that Nancy and Colin have performed by caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, continues for many years to come.”
Donations to the fund may be made in person (cash or cheque) at the following Gunnedah locations:
• Gunnedah Shire Council administration building
• Gunnedah Veterinary Hospital
• Gunnedah Visitor Information Centre
• Namoi Valley Independent
• 2MO/2GGG Radio Station
• Greater Building Society (where the account is held)
